Hope involves the feeling that events will turn out for the best. Don’t we all want the events of our lives to turn out for the best? But isn’t it true, it doesn’t always happen?

And what about the final event of our lives - death? Is there any hope for the best when that happens?

Well, to answer that question, may I encourage you to listen to what Jesus said?

First, Jesus told us about a great fact. He said, “For God so loved the world...” (John 3:16)

These are days when so many people question God’s love and goodness, angrily blaming Him for all disasters and tragedies. However, the broken world we live in is not God’s fault, it’s ours. This is hard to admit, but God’s Word declares our acts of sin are what ruin our lives:

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“...sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” (James 1:15b)

But there is no cause to become hopeless, because Jesus said God loved the world, not hated the world.

And because of His love, God performed a great act - the greatest act ever known to man - “...he gave his only begotten Son...” In other words, God sent His Son to be our Saviour, and the giving of His Son Jesus Christ is the greatest demonstration of God’s love for us.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

However, Jesus’s death for us also involves His resurrection (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). In other words, Jesus is still alive today and able to save all people. He made that clear when He said, “...whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Did you notice He said, “whosoever?” That means eternal life is available to any person anywhere in the world - including you.

But there is one critical matter I would urge you to consider. Jesus declared everlasting life is the possession of those who have placed all their confidence in Him to save them from sin.

Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ? Do you possess, “everlasting life?” If not, it could become yours today by turning from your sin and self-dependence and asking God to be merciful to you, a sinner (see Luke 18:13-14).
